Rotten Figs by Michael Jackobo

Rotten figs on a leafless fig tree against the blue sky, even though the season is winter. Another old photo that was forgotten due to other priorities. It was taken at the area of Keratsini, near the power factory and next to one of the small harbors in the area. Industrial areas are not known for their aesthetics and this particular one was no exception, especially with the fish-wharf nearby. The image of the leafless tree with the rotten figs intensified the feeling of decay and seemed like a symbol of the impression given by the whole area.
In order to reduce the gloomy feeling that was created by all these correlations I scanned the film using high key settings, in contrast to the usual logic (which is actually a trend) that wants photos to be dark and “depressive” in order to make an easy impression.
