Still Life with Brushes by Michael Jackobo.
In this article I won’t speak so much about the photograph I present here today, but for the image I rejected from publishing.
First the still life with brushes/ I found these brushes in a storefront and I visualized them as a still life waiting to be photographed. When it came to taking the photo though, I found that the reflections on the glass of the store were too strong and prevented me from taking a clear shot. I did my best to hide them but in the end I still had to do some pretty extreme post processing to eliminate any major distractions. I am not perfectly happy with the result, but I like the theme nevertheless.
Now, about the image I didn’t publish and why it is worth mentioning. I had the photograph ready and I sat down to write the article for the post. The result was a philosophical essay which was overwhelming in regards to the image it would accompany. So I decided to dumb the scheduled post and make a photo more suitable for the text I had prepared.
The is the first time that a text dictates my artistic expression but it is a challenge I gladly accept. It is always refreshing to try new things and go out of ones comfort zone, both as a test of strength -and discovery of ones limits- but also as a way to discover new paths of directing ones creativity. Ultimately, this is one (or more) step in the road of self discovery trough the way of the creation of Art.
