Fishing Rod by Michael Jackobo

Photograph of the reel of a fishing rod, taken in a port with a fisherman in the background. This photo was taken during a walk at the port of the seaside town of Amfilochia, at my summer visit to the place. As the fishing rod could be easily lost among the other elements in the frame, I chose an open aperture in order to have a shallow depth of field, but that wasn’t enough.
In the original photo, the fisherman in background dominated the frame and the composition seemed off balance. To counter that, I flipped the image horizontally and everything was improvement.
Although this is a technical shot, I am publishing it because there is something in this picture that I like and this is the ultimate factor in deciding what to upload.

Καλάμι Ψαρέματος

Φωτογραφία του μηχανισμού ενός καλαμιού ψαρέματος, τραβηγμένη σε ένα λιμάνι, με έναν ψαρά στο φόντο. Η εικόνα τραβήχτηκε σε μια βόλτα μου στο λιμάνι της Αμφιλοχίας, κατά τη διάρκεια του καλοκαιριού. Καθώς το καλάμι θα μπορούσε να χαθεί ανάμεσα στα άλλα στοιχεία του κάδρου, διάλεξα ένα ανοιχτό διάφραγμα για να έχω μικρό βάθος πεδίου, αν και αυτό από μόνο του δεν ήταν αρκετό.
Στην αρχική φωτογραφία, ο ψαράς στο φόντο κυριαρχεί στο κάδρο και η σύνθεση φαίνεται να μην έχει ισορροπία. Για να το φτιάξω αυτό, γύρισα την εικόνα οριζόντια και η κατάσταση βελτιώθηκε.
Παρά το ότι η λήψη είναι τεχνική, τη δημοσιεύω γιατί σαν εικόνα έχει κάτι που μου αρέσει και αυτή είναι η βασική παράμετρος στην επιλογή του τι πρόκειται να ανεβάσω.
