Shipwreck and Crane by Michael Jackobo
An old shipwreck is rotting half submerged in the sea, while in the distance a crane from a quarry rises to the sky. The shipwreck is the Mediterranean Sky and it has sank near the town of Elefsis, in Attica. I have written about it in the photo titled “Going to the Shipwreck”. The crane belongs to an old bauxite mine that was in the area and it was used for loading the minerals to ships.
A simple photo of the semi-sunken ship was not very interesting and since the crane was also a dominating element in the landscape, I combined them in one frame to make the composition more impressive. For most of the time I was there, the sun was hidden behind the clouds, making the scene look flat and dull. I patiently waited and in one of the rare moments where there was a break in the clouds, I took the photo.
